Let’s Mingle CAL : Week 5

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all doing well and enjoying our CAL patterns.
This week we are doing one more textured pattern; the Slant pattern.

It’s a simple repeat of 2 rows with a slight twist to give the slant effect. It is one of those patterns that you can crochet absent mindedly once you get the hang of it.

In the video tutorial, I am starting with 35 foundation chains; however, if you wish to work a chainless foundation row, you will need 34 chainless single crochet stitches to begin (here’s a link to the tutorial)

Here are links to previous patterns in this CAL:
Week 1: Up & Down Pattern
Week 2: Rain Drop Pattern
Week 3: Modified Shell Pattern
Week 4: The Y Pattern

You can also purchase the written pattern of all 6 patterns through my Ravelry store.

Let’s Mingle CAL: Week 4

Hello friends and welcome to another pattern in our Let’s Mingle CAL journey…

We are adding more texture to our blanket as we crochet along these squares.
This week’s pattern is the “Y” pattern as we will be forming this letter as we crochet our rows.
We will be working with front post stitches. So if you haven’t worked around posts before, this is a good chance to start practicing.

As always, we are starting our sample square with 35 foundation chains. However, if you want to work with chainless foundation row, then you can crochet 34 chainless half double crochet stitches. You can find a tutorial to this technique here

Here is the link to this week’s tutorial on my channel: The “Y” Pattern

Let’s Mingle CAL: Week 3

Hello crochet friends…

What are you up to?
Can you believe it… We are already halfway through the CAL 😀.
So week 3 of Let’s Mingle CAL features the shell stitch with a twist, where I have added some light texture to the pattern. If you are new to crochet and want to explore some advanced beginner options, this is a good place to start.

Modified Shell Stitch:
As always, we are starting our sample square with 35 foundation chains. If you want to do the chainless foundation row option, then you need to start with a row of 34 chainless half double crochet stitches (you can find the tutorial here).

Similar to the Rain Drop pattern, your tension is important to keep your work flat; otherwise, your work will tend to curl to one side if you pull tightly.

New to the CAL? Never too late to join 😊. Here are the links to previous patterns:

You can also purchase the written pattern of all 6 patterns through my Ravelry store.

Let’s Mingle CAL: Week 2

Welcome back to the 2nd week of Let’s Mingle CAL.

Last Friday morning, I was so anxious about the feedback the first part of this CAL would receive. I wasn’t sure if I had chosen the right pattern to be released at the beginning of the event. I didn’t want to turn people away from this CAL by finding it too hard to follow.
But I was extremely delighted with the feedback I received. I have read each and every comment I got on social media and hopefully, I haven’t missed anyone and have replied to all.
And so for this week, I am still keeping it simple. No textures yet 😉

Rain Drop Pattern

Rain drop pattern is a repeat of 4 rows. In the video tutorial, I started with 35 foundation chains. If you want to begin the project with the chainless foundation row, you will need to crochet 34 chainless single crochet stitches (If you are new to this technique, this tutorial should be helpful).

This stitch is double-sided; so there is no right or wrong side. I like the wider “V” shape side and this is what I used as my right side for the sample blanket.
You can also alternate your squares, by using each side at a time if you like.
When working a couple of rows below your current row, it is very important to control your tension to keep your work flat as you work up your rows. Otherwise, your square will tend to curl towards one side.

One more option that I forgot to mention on the video (and it’s there for all the CAL tutorials) is that if you check the description box you will find the video timeline written. This should be helpful if you are coming back to check a specific row as you don’t have to watch the whole thing again to get to where you need.

New to the CAL? Never too late to join 😊. Here are the links to the previous pattern:

Let’s Mingle CAL : Week 1

Hello and welcome to the first week of Let’s Mingle CAL, the Up and Down Pattern.

This pattern is very close to my heart. Although it looks complicated, the steps to make it up are pretty simple.

The sample in the video tutorial is made with 35 foundation chains. If you want to start with a chainless foundation option, you will need to crochet 34 stitches of chainless single crochet foundation row. You can find the tutorial for this technique in this video.

The written pattern of 6 blocks is available on my Raverly store.

I love to see your work. Please share yours on Facebook or Instagram and use the hashtags #eriniscal and #letsminglecal in order for the rest of us see it.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions regarding the pattern.
Enjoy crocheting and see you next Friday with week 2: Rain Drop Pattern.

Let’s Mingle CAL

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

I am so excited to finally be able to announce what I have been working on for a while.
I had the idea of creating a CAL to get us busy during lock down, quarantine and social distancing. And, oh my God, preparing for it is a LOT of work.
Since it’s my first CAL project to design, I wanted it to be as perfect as it can be.
And since many are picking the hook for the first time or reconnecting with a long-forgotten hobby, I wanted to have a variation in my CAL to accommodate all levels of crochet expertise. So I hope you enjoy your time crocheting along with me.

What is a CAL?
Crochet along (or CAL) is an online event where a group of crochet lovers work the same pattern at the same time. The pattern is released in parts and has a starting and ending date.

Let’s Mingle CAL
This CAL is a blanket of 6 squares. Video release dates will be announced shortly, so keep an eye on my blog. If you would like to get notified when each part is released, please hit the subscribe button on the top right side of the blog and enter your email address. Once you verify your email, you will be added to the email list.

Each pattern (block) can be made into a blanket on its own, as the patterns are not built on each other. Or you can repeat the squares as many times to have a unique blanket design. The final layout of the pattern is left for you to add your taste.

Social Media:

The written pattern of each block (and how to adjust the starting chain for a bigger version of each pattern) will be available in a bundle of all 6 patterns on my Ravelry store.

On my YouTube channel, I will be showing steps of crocheting the small blocks to make the sample blanket.

In our Facebook group, we can share our progress photos and questions.

On Instagram, the CAL details will be released on @eriniscorner. You can always share your work using #eriniscornercal and #letsminglecal

Material:
Yarn: Light (3) – or a yarn of your choice with the matching hook size
Hook: 4 mm
Tapestry needle.
Stitch markers

You can purchase the yarn I used from this link: Bernat Baby Sport
I used Addi crochet hook which you can purchase here: Addi Crochet Hook

This pattern is also a good stash buster. Just make sure that you use yarn of the same fiber; acrylic, cotton or cotton blend or any other type. That will help with washing and taking care of the final project.

Let’s Mingle CAL square final size:

You will notice that I am not specifying any gauges for this project. The gauge will depend on your tension and the size of you starting chain. If you are following my video tutorial, once your block length (height) equals the length of your starting chain (width), start working on your edge. This will also help if you decide to go with a different yarn weight and hook size.

My Trendy Mittens

 Hello..Hello.. Hello..

I haven’t been active on my blog for a while and I’m way behind writing the patterns for the tutorials I have on my YouTube channel. And to be honest, I don’t have a written patterns for today’s project as well, but I couldn’t stop from posting and sharing this news.

I have a tutorial for those trendy mittens. This is made in tapestry crochet (easy pattern).

I used Bernat Premium Yarn and size 4 mm hook

I also have a simple graph demonstrating the pattern.

Come check it out on my channel

My new hooks

Have you seen those little beauties??
I received them earlier this month and just love the idea of how compact they are. They are made of aluminum and come with 3 different sizes (3, 4, 5 mm).

I got mine online through Amazon and you can get yours through this link: https://amzn.to/3i6UB7R

Crochet your poppy flower

Hello everyone and welcome back!
I have a new simple pattern for you today. I always like to wear my own handmade poppy.

Last year, I made one following a YouTube pattern and this year I decided to come up with my own. I hope you enjoy it!

As always, you can find the video tutorial right here.

For the material, you will need a small amount of black and red yarn, size 4 mm crochet hook, a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle.

Puff stitch is made by yarning over, inserting the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull a loop. Repeat 2 more times for a total of 7 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops then chain 1 to finish the stitch.

Puff Set: Into the same stitch, crochet a puff stitch (explained above), ch 1, puff stitch.

We will start by doing a magic ring using the black yarn.
Round 1(Black yarn): Into the magic ring, sc x 10, sl st to join using the red yarn   (10 sc)
Round 2 (Red yarn): Ch 1, *sc into the same st where you did the sl st, puff set into the next st *. Repeat *__* 4 more times, sl st to join. (5 sc, 5 puff sets)
Round 3 (Red yarn): Ch 1, *sc into the same st where you did the sl st, puff st, puff set into the ch 1 sp, puff st*. Repeat *___* 4 more times, sl st to join  (5 sc, 10 puff sts, 5 puff sets)
